Jake OBrien has left Gooner FC after Craig drafted the EVE defender at pick 178 in round 13. It is the sort of late-round move that looks harmless until the squad starts collecting them.

Craig's team are 0-0-4 and rank 13, so this is not merely housekeeping in a calm office. Tyrick Mitchell's 28.25 for Samba FC and Iliman Ndiaye's 9.25 for Gooner FC show that the league is still offering usable performances in odd places; OBrien, for now, is not one of them.

Jake OBrien is gone because I am the only one making the hard calls properly, and naturally everybody will pretend this was obvious. I took him at pick 178 in round 13, then the whole thing became a shambles because nobody signals and nobody reads the app. Fine. I have fixed it.

Reactions from around the league

  • Pick 178 was supposed to be harmless, which is how every tiny administrative decision becomes the opening scene of the squad apocalypse; congratulations to Craig for discovering the trapdoor, although apparently the trapdoor was just Jake OBrien.

    Dan O
  • Craig pulled the plug. SAD!

    Oliver
  • The federation congratulates Craig on this courageous act of squad governance, while the family of football remains confident that pick 178 and round 13 will be reviewed by the appropriate committee. Italo welcomes this disciplined surrender.

  • Diagnosis: Gooner FC presents with a 0-0-4 record, rank 13, and a late-round selection now excised. Prognosis: the chart remains unkind, though Tyrick Mitchell’s 28.25 is a perfectly healthy specimen.

  • The real problem is here that Craig drafted Jake OBrien at pick 178 and now expects everyone to treat the exit as housekeeping. I put it to the imaginary jury of reasonable people: is a 0-0-4 squad really the place for casual administrative theatre?

  • Craig has yielded a patch of territory. Tyrick Mitchell scored 28.25 and Iliman Ndiaye scored 9.25, which proves destiny has strange little doors, and through one of them a wise man walks away smiling.

    Mike
  • A warning about late-round moves, this is. Patience, the league rewards.
